Susan has been teaching since 1992 and teaches all skill levels of basketry. She has taught at state conventions, regional guilds and school locations throughout the country.
Open weave is the format for Susan's Saturday and Thursday classes. Held 8 - 9 months of the year, at Susan's home in Island Lake, students weave the baskets of their choosing. Students arrive anytime after 8:45am for a 9:00am start. Getting acquainted with other students and with the class environment eases everyone into a productive day of weaving. Lunch, snacks and beverages are brought by students or purchased in town from McDonalds, Culvers or Subway. Lunch is scheduled for a half hour, so plenty of weaving can be accomplished by the 4:00pm end of class.
Reed classes are taught as well as black/brown ash, including Shaker designs. Susan's teaching fee for the all-day class is $50. for a reed class and $55. for an ash class. Project materials can be brought by the student or purchased from Susan for a fee to be determined. Calling earlier than the scheduled class date will establish student's skill level and project desires. Students of all skill levels, including the first time basket maker are welcome. A $20.00 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve limited class space. Entire class fee is non-refundable at one week before class date.
Susan's home in Island Lake, Illinois is located approximately 1 1/4 hours northwest of Chicago and 30 - 45 minutes south of the Wisconsin state line. (See map) Our home is air conditioned, and our resident cat is a "reserved" hostess, most content to supervise from a cushy chair in the corner.
